What is the difference between a perfume and a perfume oil?
The following is a rough guide to the differences between the strength categories of scents --
Eau fraiche: 3% or less perfume oil.
Eau de cologne: 2 - 5% perfume oil.
Eau de toilette: 4 - 10% perfume oil.
Eau de parfum: 8 - 15% perfume oil.
Perfume: 15 - 25% perfume oil.
Perfume oil: 15 - 80% perfume oil.
Black Phoenix uses no fillers, and no garbage.

How long will this stuff last? Will it ever go bad?
Our oil blends will last for over one year, if they are cared for correctly. Please keep all of our products in a cool, dark place to maximize their shelf life.
The oil I bought smells different on me than it does on Cindy Lou. Why?
Body chemistry, skin pH, diet, age, natural body odor – all these variables (and more) affect the body’s affinity for a scent blend.
I'm vegan. Do your perfumes contain any animal-based products?
With the exception of our honey products, BPAL perfumes are vegan. Our 'civet' and 'ambergris' are bouquets, and thus, are composite scents created from plant-derived perfume oils combined to best aproximate the scent. Black Phoenix is entirely cruelty-free, as our four dogs, many fish, and resident cat will attest.
All perfumes are tested on Elizabeth.

How will my credit card be processed?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover through the good graces of CCNow. Credit card payments show up on your statement as 'CCNow'.
Our credit card processing service, CCNow, is a member of the Better Business Bureau, and has a proven record of reliabilty, intergrity, and honesty. Both CCNow, and the gentle folks here at the Lab are dedicated to protecting your personal information and guarding against fraud.
We have been swindled too many times to throw caution to the wind. If, for whatever reason, we cannot verify your information or receive any sort of anti-fraud recommendation from ccNow regarding your order whatsoever, we WILL NOT PROCESS THE ORDER. The money will be refunded to you, period. It’s a pain, but dem’s da breaks, sweetcheeks. We’ve lost too much money and too much product to petty little thieves, and sending out curses and throwing the evil eye is starting to get boring.
Can I pay by check or money order?
Yes, you certainly may. Please keep in mind, however, that we will not process any order until the money clears.

Once again, I’ll reiterate: we can only accept PayPal payments, checks, and money orders on emailed and snail mail'd orders. In order to pay by credit card, you must order online through our web site. No order will be shipped until the money has cleared successfully.
Do you sell internationally?
YES! Unfortunately, due to the limitations of our current credit card processing system we can only accept PayPal for any orders placed outside of the United States, Canada included.
As you know, on May 14, 2007, the USPS shot their international Priority shipping through the roof. At that time, we had to make adjustments to our shipping grid to reflect the spike in shipping cost. After a huge amount of experimentation, pestering postal workers, and talking to USPS reps, we have found a solution for small to medium orders.
The rescaled shipping is thus:
One 5ml = 1 item
Twelve imps = 1 item
If you purchase 12 items or less (in any combination of imps and 5mls), these are the shipping rates:
$11 to Canada
$13 to Western Europe & Australasia
If you live outside these areas, or are placing an order larger than 12 items, please email us for rates.

All prices are in USD, and only payments made using USD will be accepted.
What are your shipping rates?
The shipping rates for the US are as follows:
Orders totaling up to $150.00: $6.50
…up to $300.00: $11.00
…up to $500.00: $13.00
Shipping costs will be waived for all orders over $500.00.
Please note that all orders, including domestic orders may take IN EXCESS of 14-21 business days to process, pack and ship out when we have a heavy workload, due to the nature of our product.
International customers, please email us with your location, and we will send you a quote.
How are the products sent?
We ship all of our products via USPS Priority Mail. For your protection, we require delivery confirmation on all outgoing shipments.
At this time, we ship twice a week. If you have a rush order, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Can I track my shipment?
Yes. Upon shipment, we will email you with your delivery confirmation code. It can be tracked at the US Postal Service web site. If you have any questions regarding your order, please email customer service.
What is your return policy?
Due to the nature of the product, we cannot accept any refunds or exchanges whatsoever.
We're often asked which of our scents are best suited to men. Truth be told, the majority of our perfume blends are truly gender neutral; it is simply a matter of taste and personal preference. However, we do understand that each sex does possess certain predilections, so we do our best to oblige. Indeed, several of our scents (i.e., Villain and Typhon) were created with the menfolk specifically in mind. Thus, we have compiled the following list of our more traditionally masculine blends:
